Joy (theme by Beethoven), Hirsh

An energetic setting of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy in 7/8 meter.   The textures include strumming, string slapping, soundboard taps, harmonics, and pizzicato.   The steady rhythmic pattern (of mostly 2+2+3) makes this an excellent introduction to irregular meter. The “Guitar Ia” part in the Standard 6 and Expanded (no requinto) versions has a few brief passages in 12th position.  A great finale or encore to any program!
